Student Parent Month

September is National Student Parent Month!

September is nationally recognized as Student Parent Month, a special time to honor students who balance school with parenting and/or caregiving.

2026 Schedule of Events

All events are free and open to all students, faculty, and staff. Students are welcome to bring their partners, spouses, children, and/or dependents.

• Thursday, Sept. 10, 2-4 p.m., Student Center Starbucks - Drop-in Coffee Hour with Non-Traditional Student Services
• Friday, Sept. 11, 5:30-9 p.m., Student Recreation Center - Parents Night Out (advance registration required)
• Friday, Sept. 11-Sunday, Sept. 13 - Saluki Family Weekend
• Wednesday, Sept. 16, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Faner Plaza - THRIVE Mental Health event
• Friday, Sept. 18, 5-8 p.m., Student Center Bowling and Billiards - Family Bowling Night
• Tuesday, Sept. 22, 5-6:30 p.m. Morris Library 3rd floor rotunda - Family Reading Night with Grey Dawg
• Friday, Sept. 25 - Dolly Day Quatro's will donate 30% of bills to SI Reads if you mention "Dolly Day"
• Wednesday, Sept. 30, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Student Center Old Main Room - "The Student Parent Experience at SIU" lunch and discussion
• Tuesday, Oct. 6, 12-1:30 p.m. Student Services Building 150/160 "Supporting the Whole Student: Family, Life, and Academic Balance" lunch and panel discussion
